Granny square challenge week 16

This week I adapted a pattern for a blanket
into a square.
I would love to make a blanket with this pattern
but one blanket at a time is more than enough to handle,
at least for me.
I`m always amazed when people produce one blanket after another
in just a couple of months.
There must be a secret no one tells us.
Ah well we`re just going to stick to our four square`s a week.
Back to granny bussines.

I started with 29 chain.
Follow the pattern here in English
and here in Dutch.
If the written English pattern isn`t clear for you
look at the dutch pattern
she has made pictures that can help you.
After 5 rows of hearts I ended with a row 3 of the pattern,
so it would fit the other squares I made.
Don`t finish off, weave in all the threads,
add a round of sc.
I`m a little bit in love with these hearts
so we are going to make eight of them.
You will have two weeks to make them.
For those who finish early
I will try to find an easy little crochet project
for next week.

Good luck and have fun.

And the winner is.......

Please send me your adress at
michelle@wals.nu
so I can send the book to you.
Congratulations and I hope you enjoy crocheting with
150 bijzondere haak- en breifiguren.

As you can see my cross stitch project is progressing.

If your looking for a small gift
or quick project
these owls are just easy peasy to make.
Make two, one for the front and one for the back.
On the front side make the eyes, beak and feet
Crochet the front and back together with a single crochet.
Make a loop with chains and voila ready.

Granny square challenge week 15 and a give away

This week I`ve written the directions myself
but the original pattern is from the book

Decentral granny square

We continue until round 9 at 2 sides of the square.
Round 2: join the new color in a 2 ch space. 2 ch, counts as one dc, 2 dc, 1 ch. 3 dc, 2 ch, 3 dc in the same 2 ch space (corner), 1 ch. 3 dc in next 2 ch space.
Round 3: at the wrong side (ws), 3 ch, 3 dc in first 1 ch space, 1 ch. 3 dc, 2 ch, 3 dc in the same 2 ch space (corner), 1 ch. 3 dc in next 2 ch space, 1 ch. 1 dc in 2 ch (the one that counts as a dc) from previous row.
Round 4: 2 ch continue as in round 2. Fasten off.

Round 10: join the new color. 2 ch, counts as 1 dc, 2 dc, ch 1.* 3 dc, 1 ch* repeat 4 times. 3 dc, 2 ch, 3 dc in the same 2 ch space (corner), 1 ch#. From * to # repeat 3 times. The third time you only have to make a half corner, end with 2 ch and sl st into 2 ch.
Round 11: sl st to the first 1 ch space and start with a 3 dc cluster. Repeat the pattern from round 10. Fasten off.

I hope everything is clear. If I made a mistake please let me know.

I found the pattern in the Dutch version of the book
By accindent I bought 2,
so many craftbooks I forgot I already had one.
If you would like to receive this book
leave a comment below
or on facebook.
I would appreciate it if you liked my facebook page.
At the beginning of next week
I will let you know who is the lucky one.
Only for the Dutch readers, sorry
but the book is in Dutch.
 Good luck and have fun.

Life is messy bootcamp

picture Mayi Carles

Today I answered a question in the comment section
someone asked me about the Life is messy bootcamp,
if I would recommend it.
I realised probably hardly anyone would read it
because it was from two weeks ago.
Normally I would answer sooner
but the mail wasn`t working and I didn`t notice the comment.
So I thought I would share it in a post.

Allthough I always find it hard to recommend courses.
If you wouldn`t like it I feel guilty about recommending it.
But despite this I would recommend this course.
Mayi is lovely and enthousiastic and has made a great course.
I joined the course last october and soon after joining already noticed a change.
Where there seemed to be a lack of time there was now more time for my crafty work.
The difference was made by planning my day and setting goals.
Nothing new but this course finally made me plan my day better and voila there is more time than you realize.
In the course there are also some great excersizes and information about defining your goals, profiling your customers, marketing, finance and much more.
Because of the benifits I`ve joined this year too.
If you have more questions please let me know.

Granny square challenge week 14

A flower pattern this week.
It is from Rose Hip and is simply called flower square.
I made it pretty in pink and yellow,
hope you all find some nice colors for them too.

I made 10 rounds instead of 6.
The pattern was pretty clear for me,
allthough read the parth in the end about the stem.
But no further notes.

Good luck and have fun.

Work in progress

Last week I mentioned I`m working on something new.
It is something I love to do
and makes my heart sing.
This is a portrait of one of my daughters
in crossstitch.

I converted a picture into a pattern.
Up till now I`m following the pattern
but I have some ideas to make it my own creation.
The plan is to make custom portraits.
Hopefully soon available in my
still to open Etsy shop.
But first I`m going to finish this portrait
so you can see the end result.

Mission:
In my work I want to show the beauty of each person or animal.
The crossstitches are a lot like pixels, if you look closely it is a collection of colorful squares,
from a distance the face gets it`s shape and becomes clear.
If you concentrate on the little details you loose sight of the bigger picture.
The bigger picture is a combination of beautiful and less beautiful things.
This combination is unique and makes up the personality.
Which to me is the real beauty.
In my portraits I want to expres this unique combination.

Allthough I`m still working on this piece
and it`s my first one and I`m not even sure if
the result wil be as I imagine.
I want to show it
to let you in on the process,
success and failure.
Still in doubt though if that is a wise thing to do
I`m going to push the publish button.

Granny square challenge week 13

I hope you were able to catch up
but more important you had some wonderful Holidays.
And if you didn`t catch up
no worries just hang in there
and you will have a blanket in the end.
One of the participants suggested this weeks square.

NOTE!
from little woollie
"I also varied where I put the increases in my circles when I found it was getting too hexie shaped, as long as you keep the right number of sc in between increase stitches, you can put them anywhere."

I made 12 rounds with sc, just repeat round 11.
Round 13: 3 sc, on every sc a dc, in the corners 4 dc in one stitch.
Round 14: repeat round 13 in white.

Dutch translation.

Finding my way

photograph by Pia Jane Bijkerk

Last year has been a year of finding my way.
I started this blog a year ago when I stopped working at Mies&Moos.
Finding what I truly want to do turned out to be not as easy as I thought,
daily life took over many times.
I let it take over because of insecurities and fear.
What if ...... I asked myself many times.
I also felt quilty for having the time to persue my dreams
and not making any money.
The constant doubts didn`t help.
But lately things seem to fall in place.
Thanks to Life is messy bootcamp I`m in control of my time
and things get done.
Ideas turn into plans and actions.
I hope to show you soon what I`m creating
and going to sell.

For my birthday I got the book my heart wanders from Pia Jane Bijkerk.
I find it very beatiful and inspirational.
The text below is from the book and struck a chord.
These are thoughts that ran through my mind lately
and reading them written by somebody else
was a beautiful experience.

photograph by Pia Jane Bijkerk

Wearing my heart on my sleeve has been the bane of my existence. Being 'too' honest,
open, raw, caring, sensitive and intense. I have finally realised that what I was led to
believe were my character flaws are actually my strengths. These are what encourage
and ignite my creativity. Without these characteristics, I feel nothing.

Perhaps I am just a girl with illusions of grandeur.
                 Perhaps.

Perhaps my head is filled with ideas that I can't actually produce.
                 Perhaps.

Yet I know deep down that among these grandiose ideas are ideas that I can produce.
And I will produce: there is no perhaps about that.

So, I have set out to embrace these dear mannerisms of mine. To nurture them and
honour them for the first time in my life instead of punishing myself over them.

                 create. be.
