Merry Christmas

With Christmas we have the tradition that
the girls can pick one Christmas decoration for the tree.
This year Ella chose the red peak
and Zoe the purple glittery angel.
As you can imagine our tree is
a mitch match of decorations.
I love the combination of beautiful, ugly and selfmade
in our tree.

Schoolvacation is starting tomorrow
so I`m going to leave you
for a while.
I`ll be back in january
with more granny patterns,
new tutorials
and lots of good spirit.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones
a sparkling new year
with lots of crafty goodness.

Granny square challenge week 12

Here is the result of my granny owl square.
They are so cute.
The pattern is pretty clear
so I have no notes.
I made 5 rounds for the square instead of 3.
For the eyes I used beads
because I don`t have 8 pairs of black buttons.
I think this looks very nice too.
Don`t forget to make eight of these babies.

Good luck and have fun

Dutch translation

sc = single crochet = vaste
dc = double crochet = stokje
hdc = half double crochet = half stokje
tc = treble crochet = dubble stokje

Granny square challenge week 11

picture Vicki Brown

This is the granny square I was working on
but didn`t turn out very well.
It looks nice in the picture
and I don`t know what is going wrong.
But ala I`ve put it aside
and this is what I am working on now.

I think they are very cute.
But they are not finished yet.
So no picture of my version
no NOTE`s.
For the ones who are ready to start a new pattern
and can`t wait to begin.
The pattern is called owl granny square
and it comes from Repeat Crafter Me.
If you are behind
you can try to catch up.
I must admit I`m a little behind too
when we have our Christmas break
I also have some catching up to do.
We are going to make eight owls
instead of four.
Next week my own pictures and note`s
if neccesary.

Sharp crochet hook

I think about a year ago I bought a sharp crochet hook.
It has been patiently waiting
to get used.
And now I finally came around to using it.
The hook has a sharp point on top
so you you can easily make edges on fabric
without hemstitching first.
I made flanel pajamapants and made a shell edging.
Read this post for how to.
Allthough it damages the fabric a little bit
I love the result.

Granny square challenge week 10

Yeah we are into the 2 figures
week 10 has arrived.
This week you can find the pattern on Ravelry.
It`s Flower Grannysquare from Silja Devine.

NOTE!
In row 2, after the ch3 and 1 dc, first ch 3 before you make the 2dc.
Everything between * * you repeat all around.
I decrease by taking up the first loop of two stitches, crochet them together.
In row 5 you make (1tr, ch 3, 1 tr) in the same stitch.
After making row 8 I continued with the same pattern as in row 7 and 8
but then dc instead of sc.
(Don`t forget the 3 dc in the same stitch in the corners)
Row 9 pink, row 10 white.

Good luck and have fun

Dutch translation

ch = chain = losse
sl st = slip stitch = halve vaste
sc = single crochet = vaste
dc = double crochet = stokje
tr = treble crochet = dubbel stokje
dec = decrease  = minderen

I made this cute bag as a gift for a little girl.
The pattern I used is from colour in a simple life.
You can find the download on Ravelry.
I made some changes
I usually do, haha.
First I crocheted the shoulderband onto the bag
then I made the edging.
The flowers are from the japanese book

Granny square challenge week 9

I had some trouble again.
Tuesday I had no power due to some work
that needed to be done to a power line.
And yesterday I couldn`t download the pictures I made
again!
But today is another day
and I will succeed in placing this post.

This week the pattern is Granny spike stitch
It`s an easy one which looks great.
We are going to make the granny square from the first week
and in round three we will start with the spike stitch.
I made 7 rounds.

Good luck and have fun.

Granny square challenge week 8

This week we have one of my favorite patterns.
As you can see I made more rounds then the original pattern,
7 instead of 4.
I`m going to make 5 of these insead of 4
because I don`t want to make this pattern again.
I`ve made 3 of them and keep delaying making the fourth, haha.
No one will notice when the blanket is ready that there are 3 instead of 4,
I hope.

NOTE!
I made 1 ch between the 3 dc.
I just noticed I made a mistake,
"read the pattern completely Michelle!"
I hope you are paying more attention.
The mistake is that I made dc int the corners
instead of treble crochet.

Good luck and have fun.

Dutch translation

dc = double crochet = stokje
tc = treble crochet = dubbel stokje
yo = yarn over = draad over haaknaald slaan.

Ella`s tea party 3

A bit later then planned
pictures of the birthday of Ella.
It is so much fun to see
how much she enjoyed her birthday.
In the morning we prepared everything.
With some lovely products from Joy&Co and the Hema
we decorated everything.
I also made garlands of playing cards
for the Alice in Wonderland theme.
In between to school with a treat for her classmates.
As you can see Ella probably had the loudest Hurray.

After school the tea party.
With sausages and candy,
sandwiches and pop cakes
we had hardly any leftovers.
We watched the movie Alice in Wonderland
and after that it was crafting time.
Decorating the crowns and the heart where we would put the cake pops in.
But of course the cake pops needed decorating too.
I think the girls enjoyed the high tea and decorating the cake pops the most.
I was so busy helping the girls with their crafting
I didn`t have time to take pictures.
After bringing them all home safely
and cleaning up the mess
the mr. and me were tired but satisfied
everything went so well.

The granny square challenge has a delay.
I can`t download the pictures from my camera
to the computer aargh!
I hope I can post it thursday.

Warm, cozy socks

Monday I received this nice package.
In it

socks knitted for me by Kristel from
I won a prize at the give away week
from Roos.
I`m very happy with them
they will keep my cold feet warm this winter.
Thank you Kristel and Roos.

Granny square challenge week 7

Yeah I,m able to post again
I`m slowly figuring out how everything works.

This week I made a combination of little squares.
The pattern of the little squares
you can find again at

I have started the square with a magic loop.
Join the squares together with double crochet (UK)/ single crochet (US).
If you don`t know how to do this look here.
I made a border with treble crochet (UK), double crochet (US),
in the corner: tc, ch, tc, ch, tc (UK) , dc, ch, dc, ch, dc (US).

Good luck and have fun.

Er zijn geen nieuwe termen
daarom laat ik de vertaling achterwege.
Als je het ziet duizelen met de UK en US termen,
in de hoeken maak je een stokje, losse, stokje, losse, stokje.

Computer troubles

I`m so sorry you didn`t hear from me
this week.
Windows 8 has been installed by the Mr.
and I`m lost.
I can`t get to my pictures or photoshop
and every time I wanted to post
the internet wasn`t working.
Which has nothing to do with windows 8
but is more troublesome than trying to figure out windows 8.
Why did they change so much
it seems like everything is different.
I`m not a big fan of changes on the computer.
But the Mr. is an It professional so it happens regularly
that new programs get installed or updated.
It`s all a bit frustrating.
I hope that the Mr. will be able to get
everything working over the weekend.
And I can start where we
left off.
So no granny square this week.
I had made one that needs pictures
with the explanation.
Some of you are a bit behind
I hope you are able to catch up.
Hope to see you monday.

Ella`s tea party 2

Yesterday I had some fun making crowns
for Ella`s party.
I used foam to make the crowns
and you can find the template here.

After cutting the crowns
I decorated them with decoration tape.

Make a little hole on both sides,
I used a needle.
Put an elastic string through the hole and make a knot.

I wrote the names on nice paper (these are sticky notes)
and glued it on the crown.

At the party the girls can decorate their crown
with fake jewels.

In the Netherlands you can buy the foam and decoration tape at Action
and the fake jewels at Zeeman.

Little flower embroidery

For Ella`s birthday I bought a party dress
at Boden.
I think it`s a lovely, Alice in Wonderland like, dress without
being exactly like Alice.
And also a practical solution because I didn`t have time to make an Alice dress.
Luckily Ella loved the dress
so the dress was a time saver.
Because it`s a bit cold with short sleeves
I decided to embroider flowers
on a cardigan she already has
to make it matching.

These flowers are simple but a wonderful addition to a cardigan.
I`m already looking for other cardigans
to beautify.
This is how it`s done.

Start with  a lazy daisy stitch.

Make a square,

fill up the open spaces.

Make a french knot in the middle.

Thread around the needle four times.

Done with your first flower
just a few more to go.

Granny square challenge week 6

How are you all doing with your squares,
still keeping up?
It`s nice to see the amount of squares growing
and to know I will finish this blanket
because I promised you all to keep this up
for a year.

This week we are making Granny Bobble Spiral
While reading how to make the bobble
I had no idea what to do.
Luckily after looking at the pictures
it became clear to me what she meant.

Because I wanted the last round to be off white
I made some adaptions.
When you have 22 bobbles of each color
end the yellow, pink and petrol
with a slip stitch in the next bobble
(don`t forget to make the 3 ch).
Compare with your other squares if this one is about the same size.
If not make less or more bobbles.
Continue to make a round with off white
When your in the petrol corner
finish as described in the pattern.

NOTE!
As you can see it won`t become a perfect square.
When we will join the squares to make the blanket
they will be forced :-) to become squares.
Here a video how to make a magic loop.

Good luck and have fun.

Dutch translation
ch = chain = losse
dc = double crochet  = stokje
drop hook from loop = haal de haaknaald uit de lus
pull up loop = maak de lus groot
hdc = half double crochet = half stokje
sc = single crochet = half stokje

Heartfelt list 8

of 5 things
that touched my heart.

Fall in our garden.

A little project turning out just right.
Later this week a tutorial
about these sweet embroidered flowers.

I wonder who took a bite.

Itsy bitsy spider where did you go.

tiny owl knits

picture tiny owl knits

I love the patterns from tiny owl knits.
Behind tiny owl knits is Stephanie Dosen
It`s a delight to watch the videos she makes
they always put a smile on my face.

picture tiny owl knits

When I started this blog I already placed a post about
a free pattern for heartfelt rings.

And I still want to make the beekeepers quilt.
But I`m afraid it`s going to take me ages to make it.
But I love it so much.
One day....

Ella`s tea party 1

My youngest daughter Ella is turning 8 on November the 7th.
For her friends she is giving a high tea
with a Alice in Wonderland theme.
The next few weeks I will post DIY ideas
and tips on where to buy decorations.
Because most of her friends don`t drink tea
I`m going to make cupcakes in teacups.
I just used regular cake batter
fill the teacup half and add a very full tablespoon of jam.
Add more batter.
The jam I used is Sylt Lingon from Ikea
but any jam will do.

I found these wonderful invitations
Which are wonderful for any tea party.
Take a look because they have loads of other great printables.

Granny square challenge week 5

This week we will make the African Somalia flower.
I found it on  the Wise Craft blog
but the design is from Kathy from Just Crafty Enough.
Watch the video on you tube it is useful.

NOTE!

I didn`t make the magic loop at the beginning
 I made ch. 5 into a ring,
round one then goes into the ring.
I followed the pattern till round 5.
Round 6: 3 ch, 1 dc in every stitch, in the corners 3 dc, 2 ch, 3 dc
all the way around, end with sl st in 3rd ch.
Round 7: same as 6 end off.

Good luck and have fun

Dutch translation

sc = single crochet = vaste
dc = double crochet = stokje
sl st = slip stitch = halve vaste
sk 1 st = skip 1 stitch = sla 1 steek over
hdc = half double crochet = half stokje

Heartfelt list 7

Making pop cakes with my girls,
 I love the messy decorations.

Flowers always put a smile on my face.

Growing fast but still very cute.

This happens when you let lettuce grow
 instead of eating it.

It`s going slow but I`m getting better.
I don`t think it`s going fast enough
but I`m grateful I`m getting better.
